Her uncle, a reporter, is asked to do a story on a traveling circus and she decides to come along. There they discover the Mermaid of the Mississippi, who is missing something very important. She desperately wants to get back to her family at sea, but is being held captive. If she leaves, she dies. Through Elle’s adventures to rescue her new friend, she discovers she personally has the heart of a Mermaid, and actually sees the underwater kingdom.
